WHAT IS POST TENSION SYSTE ?

Post tension concrete construction has grown within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia project since 1980’s but started to be widely used in high rise buildings and rush projects in the last 15 years when owners started to realize the cost savings guaranteed by using such systems as well as the speed of execution.

Post tension concrete has proven itself to be one of the most effective methods used in construction not only in a matter of time but also in optimizing concrete members by choosing thinner section for long spans reducing deflection that might be occurred in concrete items.

Post tensions is generally a technique in which tendons (ultra-high-strength steel strands) are placed inside ducts within horizontal concrete structures and they are tensioned after the concrete has hardened, to simplify this process When a heavy live load is brought upon a structure, its concrete slab undergoes tension, which leads to the formation of cracks and ultimately deformation occurs. To mitigate this problem, post tensioned steel tendons are inserted at the time of concreting and tensioned after concreting with conventional rebars.

When these post tensioned steel tendons are stressed, the concrete is squeezed, in other terms, the concrete is compacted which increases the compressive strength of the concrete and at the same time the steel tendons that are pulled increase the tensile strength. As a result, the overall strength of the concrete increases.
